MAKAN is more than just our family name. It is a foundational philosophy forged across cultures. Originating from India, it loosely translates to Home in Hindi, Location in Arabic, Place in Persian and Food in Malay.
For us, MAKAN embodies the central idea that wine should be a catalyst for connection. It is the location where friends gather, the food that nourishes the conversation and the feeling of coming home to a place of belonging. This is the spirit we bottle.
Our Origin
Wine found us in a moment of pure spontaneity, sparking a passion that introduced us to the diverse landscapes and incredible wine personalities of Southern Africa. It motivated us to embark on international expeditions to understand its historic migration from the Eastern highlands to the Western frontier.
The trajectory shifted a decade later during an extraordinary adventure to the Bot River region. There, we were guided to the Vitruvian Man, a destined gatekeeper who revealed the miraculous world beyond the tasting room. The events that followed inspired MAKAN, an artisanal collection of small-batch, limited-release wines.
